Greetings all,

09 IPC. A fellow wanting to expand his coin operated laundry is wanting to install a standpipe type of setup for his additional washers as opposed to a trench drain. I am thinking that a trench drain is required for commercial. However, I cannot find specific requirements for the drain system in the IPC. Could someone help me out with this?

thanks

From the `09 IPC, Section 412.4 - Public laundries and central washing facilities:

"In public coin-operated laundries and in the central washing facilities of multiple-

family dwellings, the rooms containing automatic clothes washers shall be provided

with floor drains located to readily drain the entire floor area........Such drains shall

have a minimum outlet of not less than 3 inches (76 mm) in diameter."

Depending on what type of equipment he is adding can determine what type of drain is required, if it pumps then IPC 1002.5 along with 1003.6 and 802.4 will accomplish what they want.

You will need a lint trap/interceptor,.................a lot of times they are built into the trench drain type products specific to these types of installations,............there are a couple (somewhat expensive) products ot there that you can install in-line for each washer,...........these are a pain in the neck to service, and for a medium to high volume facility, it will need to be done quite often,...........
