They are in the end stage of building a house. They drained the pool and went on a two week vacation. Swimming pools float.

While I lived in Daytona Beach a hotel on the ocean drained their pool ... when the tide came in it lifted. It rose up several feet. It was a large pool.

Hello All
New to the forum but not new to the pool industry. I'm looking forward to the forum and all the information.

This pool and others like this will float when the hydrostatic pressure behind the pool exceeds the weight of the structure itself-even if filled with water.

I suspect this pool when drained did not have the hydrostatic relief plugs removed from the floor to allow for the exchange of the ground water behind it.
But, in some parts of the country where there is expansive soil such as clay, it will allow water to build up, despite an empty pool with plugs pulled and will cause the pool to float. I have seen this multiple times in my career. Some giant commercial pools as a matter of fact.

We have on many occasions set up permanent well points near the pool to continuously monitor ground water levels and pump out automatically.
Generally, we set a 15" or bigger HDPE culvert pipe vertically below the pool structure with an automatic pump to capture water before it reaches the pool.
It's set within a few feet of the pool mostly within the pool deck. We get creative with an access cap in the patio in an effort to make it disappear.

Once a pool pops like this, it generally cannot be saved and must be removed.
