Well with temps as low as -25 and barely getting above 10 nobody is doing anything building related outside right now. This means zero inspections and very few phone calls here for the next month or so. Bored stiff.. :pitty Going crazy being cooped up in the office all day. In case anyone cares.

I feel your pain. I took retirement and went back to work as part time. I am in trouble when things pick up again, if ever?

That is excellent steveray. How many new residential starts last year? Was just thinking I should've started this thread in the Sawhorse whine and cheese section.:yawn Guess I can use this downtime to start reading the books required for the Legal/Management module CBO test. :yawn

Maybe 6?....We don't do alot of houses.....mostly commercial....couple 20+ mil projects in for permit, another just issued, few more good size just getting into P&Z now.....gonna be a record year here......be nice if they let us keep some money and get some help though.....2 full time and one part time is no way to try to make your customers happy and have any shot at code compliance...

Roger that.

Spend time at forums. I always learn something when I visit the electrical forums.

Purge your files of all the old expired dead stuff.

Detail your ride.

Have fun.

Make us laugh.

I'm not much help with this because...well I just don't care.

-3 last night, -2 predicted for tonight, highs about 30. I feel your pain too. Work is so slow here it looks like I will be losing hours here soon. I'm looking into getting a 'B' license so that I can drive the snow plow.

Those are all good ideas, Thanks.

Sorry to hear that. I got shuffled over to the ice rinks last year as their zambonie driver for a while because it was so slow here. Fun! Definitely time to get creative and figure out something to do.

Zambonie driver sounds like fun!?! Boss is willing to put me in a dump truck and teach me how to drive it. Road Department is down by 2 so, might have a new part-time career. :D

Building is way down here. I just did my quarterly reports for the state of CA for the Strong-Motion Hazards Map Fees. I collected a grand total of $.50. I usually get about 5 to 10 dollars per quarter.

Here's to better times ahead for all of us in the building industry!

Sue

Cheers to that Sue, Just finished up cleaning my office. Ended up with a box of recyclables and found stuff lying around from up to 3 inspectors ago!! Feels good to have a fresh office and a positve outlook for 2013. Best of luck to you. Eric

Eric,

Thanks, you too. Rearranged my office a month or so ago. Moved a couple pieces of furniture and tossed a bunch of papers, all junk. It feels good to have a clean, rearranged office.

I did an electrical inspection today for the bus barn, TI permits for USFS were picked up last week, and I have a solar inspection on Wednesday, barring snowfall.

Sue

Well, it looks like things are picking up here. I have no new residential but a third commercial project coming on line. Just got word from the Dollar General Store folks that they have purchased property and are proceeding with a new store. We'll be meeting with them next week to start the process.

Also, the senior 200 unit apartment complex is still in the mix. I should have plans next month, maybe sooner. I am so hoping that that happens.

Here's to a good 2013! :cheers

Sue
