The company putting up the framework of an athletic facility at Bryant University that crashed last fall into a heap of steel, injuring workers, disputed the claim Wednesday that the collapse was caused by a lack of safety measures.

The U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration issued two citations on Feb. 8 to the Barnes Buildings and Management Group, Inc. “for one willful and one serious violation of workplace safety standards,” according to a news release from OSHA Wednesday.

On Sept. 1, the frame of a planned 78,000-square-foot indoor sports practice facility at the Smithfield campus collapsed, sending six workers to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
