Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger today issued the following statement after the Department of Energy (DOE) selected Calera Corporation of Los Gatos, CA as one of six recipients to receive American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funds to convert captured CO2 emissions from industrial sources into useful products:

“California is home to some of the most innovative companies in the world, and the money awarded to Calera Corporation as they pave the way to a greener future is further confirmation. I applaud Calera Corporation in their steadfast efforts to reduce CO2 emissions and convert them into beneficial uses.”

About Calera Corporation - Calera Corporation is developing a process that directly mineralizes CO2 in flue gas to carbonates that can be converted into useful construction materials. An existing CO2 absorption facility for the project is operational at Moss Landing, Calif., for capture and mineralization. The project team will complete the detailed design, construction, and operation of a building material production system that at smaller scales has produced carbonate-containing aggregates suitable as construction fill or partial feedstock for use at cement production facilities. The building material production system will ultimately be integrated with the absorption facility to demonstrate viable process operation at a significant scale. (DOE Share: $19,895,553)

Governor Schwarzenegger created the California Recovery Task Force to track the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funding coming into the state; work with President Barack Obama’s administration; help cities, counties, non-profits, and others access the available funding; ensure that the funding funneled through the state is spent efficiently and effectively; and maintain a Web site (www.recovery.ca.gov) that is frequently and thoroughly updated for Californians to be able to track the stimulus dollars.

CO2 has use full purposes already without spending a ton of $$ we don't have to make it into something else.

Plants turn it into food and oxygen.

Before everyone thinks we've all gone completely nuts in California, we've got an initiative on the November ballot to suspend AB32, our global warming law. Prop 23 is sponsored by the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers committee that rolled back our property taxes.
