Are commercial natural gas suppliers required to paint the exterior gas line fittings at the gas meter or the property owner of the building? Code requires it IFGC2003 section 404.8 protection againest corrosion. There are several in my area with reddish rust but not sure who to enforce the code on!

Re: corroded gas meter fittings

Our gas suppliers paint everything up to and including the meter and down to the outlet side union. I require that the building contractor paint the remainder, from the union to the wall penetration.

pcinspector,

You may want to call the local natural gas supplier and just have

a friendly, inquiring type of chat with them. Hopefully, you will

get someone in management or field supervision that will know

something about maintaining the gas meters and the associated

fittings with a protective painting, ..ya know, ...that ongoing

type of maintenance thingy! :D
