2013 CBC. I am a little bit confused by the change in the code regarding the detectable warning surfaces.
Section 11B-705.1.1.3 Contrast: This section specifies the contrast required between the detectable warning surfaces and the adjacent walking surfaces. Light on dark, or dark on light. There is then a formula to determine the "contrast" that contrast number is represented as a percentage. Where is there a minimum contrast specified? Then 11B-705.1.1.5 Color: This section specifies a precise yellow conforming to a federal standard unless it is on a curb ramp, island or cut-thru median.
That would leave me to believe that out in front of many of the buildings that have been constructed with zero curbs at the building entries that our only option is now the specified yellow detectable warnings and we can no longer use detectable warning tiles that are contrasting, but also are in a complimentary color to the hardscape. These building owners are not going to be happy.
