Dining Patio Expansion and Exiting Question

Existing restaurant has a patio and we would like to expand the patio area. The restaurant is sandwiched in between two buildings, and is a through lot. The restaurant has an occupant load over 49 and has two exits as shown on the plan.

1. If we expand the dining patio so that the occupant load is above 49, can one of the exits go through the restaurant?
2. If we can exit through the restaurant, does the door swing of the restaurant's egress take precedence over the patio egress direction?

Thanks in advance

I am going with yes,,,,, Only if you have double swing doors between the two, as in one swings one way and the other swings the other way.

May need a mullion or seperate the doors, so you can have panic hardware.

See the attached section on outdoor areas. It acknowledges the possibility that the path of egress travel from the outdoor areas passes through the building. It does not say egress from the indoor space takes precedence.

Thanks, I had not thought of the double egress door option. Unfortunately the existing walls won't allow for proper ada door clearances but it's good to know we have that option.

Thanks for the code reference. I think the double egress door may be my only option

And watch your bathroom fixture counts....

IEBC 809.1 Minimum Fixtures
Where the occupant load of the story is increased by more than 20 percent, plumbing fixtures for the story shall be provided in quantities specified in the International Plumbing Code based on the increased occupant load.

Thanks for looking out!

The patio is open to the sky and is not sprinklered. Only some string-lights hanging above.

Yeah after I wrote it did not sound good

but

Can you add a 2nd exit off the patio??

And meet 1/3 the diagonal of the patio only?
