I have a 5 unit apartment over a retail space. Type 3b construction with fire suppression. Michigan Building Code 2015

Between the units I need a 1 hour FIRE PARTITION which is reduced to 1/2 hour because of the fire suppression system.

How far away from this FIRE PARTITION can I have exterior windows? Where the FIRE PARTITION intersects the exterior wall?

Under 708 Fire partitions there is 708.5 Exterior walls. But this seems to just be applicable if the exterior wall is required to be rated. Which in my case isnt. But I keep looking at section 706 for FIRE WALLS which says in 706.5.1 i need to extend the fire wall 4' to each side.

Am i confusing FIRE WALLS with FIRE PARTITION?

Check your fire suppression system as that 1/2 hr is for a 13 system not a 13R system and yes this is a partition not a fire wall situation . No distances required like you would for a fire wall for openings
