Electrical Distribution Lines

I have an electrical utility provider that wants to

install "new" electrical utility lines over head; on

metal utility poles [ in a "new" industrial park ],

versus what our AHJ ordinances require, ...all

underground.

What are the problems for installing underground?

Perceived benefits to the electrical utility company:

[1] easier maintenance / repairs, [2] lower initial

installation costs, and [3] more easily located

lines / problems as they occur.

Perceived benefits to our AHJ: [1] appearance

issues with industrial development - unsightly

metal poles with the elec. lines, [2] these elec.

distribution lines won't be affected by weather

related events as would the overhead type.

What is your experience with these type of

developments?

Thanks for any input!

if your ordinances require them to be undeground, i'd guess thats what they need to do, resubmit showing underground per ordinance number whateva...

Agree with codeworks......we don't get involved with power distribution, but if you have an ordinance in place, the stick with it.

Their points are certainly valid in every respect as are the reasons for the ordinance. Since the ordnance is in place that's what needs to be done regardless of what the utility wants. Like most things there are good and bad points for both sides of the argument but in this case the AHJ has the winning hand!
