Exceptions for columns in exit passageways?

402.8.6 Tells me my minimum corridor width shall be 5'-6", our client wants to wrap around the column on the corridor side. I thought there was an exception where if a choke point is less than 2' it would be allowed, anyone ever see that?

I looked in 1024 also but could not find any exceptions.

This is in a mall. (California)

ANSI 117 has that exception for accessibility I believe is what you are remembering....
