I am trying to conduct an OBC Chapter 34 (Ohio Building Code, Existing Building and Structures) Compliance Evaluation on an old, existing 1 story building. The building is currently divided into two tenant spaces. One space is an A-2 occupancy and it will remain. The other space is a B occupancy and the client wants to turn this space into an A-2. They are currently divided by a 2 hr rated fire barrier, as required by Chapter 5 (Table 508.4). With the project being a renovation with a change of occupancy of a tenet space, not the entire building – Am I supposed to evaluate the tenet space independently or evaluate the entire building when conducting the Compliance Evaluation?

Thanks for your feedback!

If you're referring to the "Compliance Alternatives" of Section 3412, then look at Section 3412.2.2. It appears you only have to review the area in question if separated by a fire barrier per Table 508.4.
