Exit access stairway enclosure required?

2012 IBC. Given a second story occupancy with an occupant load of 8 and an exit access travel distance of 68'. Table 1021.2(2) permits a single exit. I have indicated a single "open" exit access stair as the exit. My 68' exit access travel includes travel down the stair and to an exterior door. The 2006 IBC use to require this stair to be enclosed by Section 1020.1, Exceptions 8 and 9. The 2009 IBC changed the section number (GRRR) to Section 1022.1 and deleted Exceptions 8 and 9, if I read it correctly. So it appears to me that I can have a single open exit access stair from the second story. Please let me know if I'm mistaken or if ICC "buried" the old requirements of the 2006 IBC Section 1020.1, Exceptions 8 and 9 someplace else. Thanks for your help.

khsmith55,

Does your 2nd floor stairway include any occupant loading
from the 1st floor along the way, or is it exclusively for the
2nd floor only ?

Follow-up to my previous post. It appears that 2006 Section 1020.1, Exceptions 8 and 9 have been moved in the 2009 to Section 1016, Exception 3 and 4 (double GRR>). Still looking to see where ICC may have moved these requirements in the 2012 IBC, or did they get deleted.
