Using 2015 IBC,,

For non accessible exits, do they require a sidewalk to parking lot or public way??

If so, please code section.

Will look through it. I thought in the old days a sidewalk was required??

Or is it required out of the fire code??

Thank you

Section 1003.5: "Walking surfaces of the means of egress shall have a slip-resistant surface and be securely attached."

This opens up a wide variety of interpretations as to what constitutes a "slip-resistant surface" and what it means to be "securely attached." Is a sidewalk required? Not necessarily, but loose gravel...hmmm.

We have always taken a hard look at this, crushed fines, should be good, had 4-6" cobbles once, not so good. Not good with grass either....
