Has anyone seen a code requirement for exposed wood on the interior of a roof access hatch to be covered with some type of flashing? I am not referring to the outside but rather the inside as you are climbing up the ladder to the hatch and exposed wood blocking is present where the hatch is attached to the roof. The building is type IIB construction and the design professional is citing 2018 IBC 603.1 item 14 as allowed material:
603.1 Allowable materials.
Combustible materials shall be permitted in buildings of Type I or II construction in the following applications and in accordance with Sections 603.1.1 through 603.1.3:
1. 14. Blocking such as for handrails, millwork, cabinets and window and door frames.
