I have a condition where an exterior design feature necessitates that the exit path travel alongside the exterior building wall for approximately 40'. The exit path would be about 6'-6" wide and the building's exterior wall would be on one side only. Is this creating an 'exit court' thus requiring the exterior wall to be rated? The exterior wall would be 8" cmu.

What is on the other side?

Does not sound like a court to me...

COURT. An open, uncovered space, unobstructed to the sky, bounded on three or more sides by exterior building walls or other enclosing devices.

Yeah, I agree, but I also feel like the wall would need to be rated since you are directing those exiting along a wall that could have fire on the other side. I may be being too cautious.

You are....I do not believe code addresses this situation, but you can rate the wall if you want to be safer than the minimum the law allows....
