Type IIA Construction

We have an industrial project where we are adding an H-2 building in between other client-owned buildings located on the site. We are using a type IIA construction to allow for an increase in the area. The new facility will be located such that the existing, adjacent structures will be "given" the 30 foot separation distance so we don't have to modify their exterior walls. This leaves the remaining distance from the new building to the imaginary lot line ranging from 15 - 25 feet.

Table 602 indicates the exterior walls will require a 1-hour rating. To obtain this rating we will be using metal siding panel (MetlSpan) that has the appropriate rating. Per Type IIA requirements, the primary, secondary and decking will have spray-applied fire proofing. Question is, will the girts (we're considering these to be secondary members) also require fire proofing? I'm thinking yes, but just wanted to confirm.

Thanks

If the girts are removed, will the wall still remain in place for one hour in fire conditions- if not, they will require fire spray proofing as well.

Be sure the metal engineered component (girts and supporting metal structure)has adequate collateral loading for the fire spray proofing being added - nobody likes nasty surprises.
