I am currently doing a plan review for a renovation of a M occupancy using the 2018 IFC. Currently the entire building is Sprinklered and is divided into 3 units. The sprinkler riser is located in unit C (with no occupant notification devices) and the FACP is located in unit A and has occupant notification devices. The new business will be combining units B & C by removing a interior wall. The combined units will be separated from unit A by a 1 hr. fire wall.

My question is does there need to be a separate alarm system for each tenant monitoring the sprinkler system or can they share the alarm as long as there are occupant notification devices throughout both buildings? Also would a pull station be required for each tenant?

Thank you

When you say both buildings and a 1hr fire wall I've got questions. A 1hr fire wall doesn't exist in the IBC and it seems to me that you are separating with a 1hr barrier different tenants and have 1 building with what will be 2 tenants that is fully sprinklered. FA systems are based upon sq footage and buildings and I can't answer not knowing what you have. I will say that any building that is sprinklered would need notification appliances throughout. The pull station question could be 1 at the riser for testing purposes depending upon local ordinance implications, otherwise at each exit point. Look to NFPA 72 for that and other questions about installation of FA systems. The IFC or IBC is a when to do it not a how to do it standard such as 72

Sprinkler monitoring is for the purpose of monitoring the sprinkler system. The monitoring is typically at the point where the sprinkler main enters the building, and is not related to any tenant served by the sprinkler system.
