707.5 Continuity. Fire barriers shall extend from the top of the foundation or floor/ceiling assembly below to the underside of the floor or roof sheathing, slab or deck above and shall be securely attached thereto. Such fire barriers shall be continuous through concealed spaces, such as the space above a suspended ceiling. It appears that Fire Barriers must extend to the underside of the flooring material, not at the underside of a ceiling / floor assembly. Is this correct? If so, how do I run a new fire barrier to the underside of an existing wooden floor? The floor joists measure 3"x12" and are on 12" centers. The fire barriers will run both parallel with and perpendicular to the floor joists. Can the fire barrier stop at the underside of a fire rated ceiling / floor assembly?
Thanks
