Fire Door Requirements By Occupancy

Can someone point to the codes about where fire doors are required by occupancy? I am familiar with NFPA 80 but am unable to find information about where fire doors need to be installed, assuming there are different requirements for varying occupancies.

I am familiar with TABLE 716.1(2)OPENING FIRE PROTECTION ASSEMBLIES, RATINGS AND MARKINGS that states min. fire door assembly rating but looking for something more specific. I.e., sleeping unit doors in hotels or patient rooms in hospitals.

The information would helpfully guide me on where to look for fire doors in buildings, not necessarily decide whether one should be present.

Fire doors are located in fire-resistant construction.

Basically, there can be any of a dozen (more like 50) reasons that you have a fire-resistive (or smoke) rated wall assembly. If you put a door in that wall, a "fire door" is needed.

Sorry to not provide a clearer answer, but the basis of the question (fire doors) is dependent on another factor (fire-rated walls).

Fire doors are opening protectives in fire-resistance rated walls. I don't believe there has ever been anything in the building code that directly correlates fire doors with a specific occupancy.

Oh, gotcha. So, the TABLE 716.1(2)OPENING FIRE PROTECTION ASSEMBLIES, RATINGS AND MARKINGS chart is the best resources?

I just thought there would be requirements for occupancies or situations like if a sprinkler system is installed a fire door may not be required.

If sprinklers are installed, things like the required fire resistance rating of exit access corridors is reduced or eliminated. If the rating of the wall is reduced, the rating of the opening protectives in the wall are reduced. If the rating of the wall is eliminated, then opening in the wall don't require opening protectives.

Thanks, well said!
