Fire Pole in egress stair exit enclosure

I did get a chance to speak to the local this morning and the guy is a real piece of work.......

Throw the code book at him,,, followed by the sections that back up your claim.

See if he catches and keeps,,,or throws it back.

Does he have a boss ????

I am the Boss, and I like my work, Tim seems to be ok. We agree that a 2 story building does not need to have rated stairs.

My understanding is the egress stairs can not have things like soda machines, bookcases, storage and electrical panels in them for example; only stuff that supports the stairs like sprinkler risers, standpipes, smoke control equipment.

OHHH ok,,

Only comment, if they do not have to be enclosed, as long as stuff is not blocking the exit way, seems like they can store against the stairs.

So is this a forum first, that someone post a question here and it then turns out that another member is actually the AHJ for the project?

I would have no issues designing an unenclosed non rated stair that has a fire pole adjacent, or a slide, or a climbing wall as long as the function of the stair was not impacted.

Agreed, they may be trying to keep vehicle exhaust out of the upper floor, by putting the slide pole in an enclosure.
