In review of a fire rated assembly, GA File No. FC 5750, I do not see any requirement for the individual layers of gypsum board to be mud/taped between layers. Is there a specific location that this requirement is found or is it not required because of the staggered joint application? Thank you.

In GA-600, look at the "General Explanatory Notes." Note 6 addresses the finishing of gypsum board and only requires the face layers (i.e., exposed layers) to have joints taped and finish to Level 1 per GA-214 and fastener heads treated. It further states that base layers in multi-layer systems do not require joints or fasteners taped or treated.
