IBC2006 Table 720.1(2) No. 13 Why would there be a wall design with 25"?

Is there a wall design for 19.2" on centers?

I'll bet the 25" in item 13 is a typo. I would ignore it and use the 24" in that location.

In rated wall design, if you find a wall design you like with 24" o.c. stud spacing, then the 19.2" is OK as long as the width of the gyp board is 96" wide which would typically place the board on horizontal edge.

The stud spacings in listed designs (UL, A or other) are a "maximum" permitted by the design. To orient gyp board horizontally, the listed assembly would either have to permit the horizontal orientation OR solid blocking would have to be in place to support the meeting horizontal edges.

Careful though, unless the short edges are also tapered like the long edges, it is a tough job to get meeting square edges properly taped and floated without a "hump". I have not yet seen gyp board with 4 tapered edges. Consider staying with the 24" or 16" stud spacing. Also, the 19.2" is found in applications to rafter or joists and not in rated walls.

Hope this helps.
