I have a two-family dwelling (apartment) being constructed in my jurisdiction. Its 2 story with 1 apartment over the other, instead of side by side. The fire separation will be the ceiling. Does it matter that the duct work for the 1st floor is in the cavity between the 1st and 2nd floor? I see the IRC allows penetrations of 144 sq inches for walls but nothing about ceilings. Thanks for the help.
