I noticed that IRC section 302.11.1 Fireblocking material does not list any type of metal for use as a fireblock. Did the UBC allow metal?

I thought that 26ga metal use to be used as a fireblock on balloon framing between stories? Maybe it was for draft stopping, as other approved materials are permitted??

While your at it follow this code runaround:

Fireplace fireblocking 2012 code index starts with R1001.12 takes you to R602.8 then to R302.11. Metal is not listed as approved fireblocking in the fireplace chase usually installed at the ceiling level in this area.
