CBC 602.3 says “Fire-retardant-treated wood framing complying with Section 2303.2 shall be permitted within exterior wall assemblies of a 2-hour rating or less.”

Question: In typical platform framing, what do I do about the rim joists or floor joists or plywood sheathing that interrupt the wall studs and plates?

A - Are they allowed, or must I use joist hangers to avoid any interruption of the wall assembly?

B - Do they need to be fire-rated? Or is this not applicable, because they are not part of a *wall* assembly, but are rather a *floor* assembly?
