The National Fire Academy Announces Two Pilot Courses to be Held in Arlington Texas.

The National Fire Academy, in partnership with Texas Fire Training, Texas Fire Marshal’s Association and USFA PARADE announces presentation of two pilot courses. Pilot courses are highly participatory among the instructors, course developers and students. Attendees are expected to contribute their ideas and expertise to improve course content and delivery.

Fire and Life Safety Plans Review (P132) Pilot Course Scheduled

The National Fire Academy is recruiting students to attend a pilot class for its six-day off-campus course Fire and Life Safety Plans Review. The pilot will be offered August 6 to 11, 2012 in Arlington, Texas. The pilot delivery is a partnership with Texas Fire Training, Texas Fire Marshal’s Association and USFA PARADE.

This course will assist the student in verifying that construction documents comply with applicable building and fire codes for fire protection and life-safety requirements.

Subjects addressed in the course include site plan reviews for emergency apparatus access, water supply, and hydrants for fire protection; review of architectural drawings for construction requirements, means of egress for life safety, and fire-resistive compartmentalization.

Target Audience

Individuals who are, or expect to be, responsible for verifying code compliance of construction documents from a fire protection standpoint.

Student Selection Criteria

The course is open for application to individuals who have code enforcement responsibilities for the review and approval of plans his/her jurisdiction.

Students will be required to bring to class:

Local Building, Fire and Mechanical Codes.

Architect and engineering scale tools

How to Apply

Students must complete a separate FEMA Form 119-25-1, General Admissions Application (formerly FEMA Form 75-5)

Completed applications must be postmarked by July 13, 2012 to:

Completed course applications also may be faxed to the Admissions Office at (301) 447-1441.

Applicants should not make plans to attend the pilot course until notified in writing by the Admissions Office.

Students are responsible for making their own lodging arrangements if needed.

Minimum Attendees: 16 Maximum Attendees: 22

Classes run from 8 AM to 4 PM.-Monday through Saturday.

They will be held at the Arlington Fire Department Training Center.

Water-Based Fire Protection Systems Plan Review (P137) Pilot Course Scheduled

The National Fire Academy is recruiting students to attend a pilot class for its six-day off-campus course Water-Based Fire Protection Systems Plan Review. The pilot will be offered August 6 to 11, 2012 in Arlington, Texas. The pilot delivery is a partnership with Texas Fire Training, Texas Fire Marshal’s Association and USFA PARADE.

The course will enable students to perform a plan review to evaluate the suitability of the fire sprinkler, pump and standpipe plans and calculations in accordance with nationally recognized standards for design and installation. Course content covers fire protection standards, plan reading, water supplies, fire protection hydraulics mathematics, fire pumps, sprinkler systems, and standpipe systems.

Pilots are highly participatory among the instructors, course developers and students. Attendees are expected to contribute their ideas and expertise to improve course content and delivery.

Target Audience

The target audience for this course is the student who is responsible for the review and approval of plans for water-based fire protection systems in his/her jurisdiction.
