Still on a gas station / convenience store project, ...Article 514.11© in the

`08 NEC requires an emergency control ( a shutoff switch / disconnect ) for all

fuel dispensers to be installed no closer than 20 ft., nor farther than 100 ft.

from the dispensers.

QUESTION #1: Is it ' required ' to have a secondary shutoff switch installed

inside the convenience store, say at the cash registers, rather than a single

shutoff switch on the exterior?

QUESTION #2: NFPA 30 requires the fuel shutoff switches to be ' readily

accessible '. Are there any distance limitation requirements for a switch

to be considered ' readily accessible ' ?

As always, please provide chapter & verse of the applicable standard.

Thanks ya'll!! :D

Look in NFPA - 30A, 2010 Edition, Section 6.7.

"One or more is required to be installed.".....Your AHJ will / should determine

how many are installed and the locations of each.

The ' readily accessible ' should also be determined by the AHJ......Typically,

there is one Fuel Shutoff located between 20 - 100 ft. of the dispensers,

...easily identifiable with appropriate signage, ...a conspicuous location, and one

Fuel Shutoff is located near the main [ sales ] cash register.....The one at the

cash register should also be easily identifiable, so that the sales attendant, or

anyone else could shut off all electrical power to all dispensers, lights, etc. if

they have to.

The ' readily accessible ' aspect is a subjective term that is open to

interpretation by the AHJ official......They should be located for quick access,

...easily identifiable, and for sure, ...be able to shut down all electrical power

supplied to the dispensers, the area lighting, any advertising, etc., etc.

Hope this helps!
