I am dealing with a number of health and safety violations at a chain hotel. One of the items I noted for them to correct was to install access covers over the two furnaces in the utility room. These are old furnaces and they cannot find the covers, so the correction has not been made. My question - is there a requirement that furnaces have covers and if so where can I find the code section? This is one correction I wrote down without really knowing a code section to back it up.

Are these covers that would cover the burner compartment

And gas or electric???

The installation and operation manuals should require all of the parts that it left the factory with.

I thought most furnaces have a push in kill switch that is depressed when the front panel is installed??

IPMC 603.4 Safety Controls, Manufacture most likely requires the front panel to be in place during operation.

Arcal,

If possible, can you identify who the manufacturer of

your furnaces ?......If so, can you also identify the model

number ?.......If you have these two pieces of information,

you can search the world wide web to assist you in the

manufacturer' requirements.

BTW, operation and maintenance manual should indicate need (or lack thereof) for the covers. Generally agree with the above that Manufacturers specifications would dictate, and the Codes always require compliance with mfr specs.

Are they able to fabricate covers?
