13. Double top plates, minimum 48-inch offset of end joints, face nail in lapped area

8-16d (31/2 0.135) —

R602.3.2 Top plate.Wood studwalls shall be capped with a

double top plate installed to provide overlapping at corners

and intersections with bearing partitions. End joints in top

plates shall be offset at least 24 inches (610 mm). Joints in

plates need not occur over studs. Plates shall be not less than

2-inches (51 mm) nominal thickness and have a width at

least equal to the width of the studs.

Not sure what code cycle you are looking at. The 2009 has 24" on both sections. Is there errata that you did not place in your book?

I am using a CD of the 2009. I will check the book at work later. thanks
 
Silly inspector, that is a non-portable nail storeage device.

Wait until you see where the plumber stored the left over fittings.
