The question is -When is saftey glazing required in an fully glazed overhead sectional door? Such as one might find at the service entrance of an auto dealership. I'm having a hard time getting an answer from the manufacturers - they don't want to say it's required because it will raise the cost. Instead they are suggesting the Authority Having Jurisdiction make the call. But since the subject is not specifically addressed in IBC they are only offering an opinion. Of course theirs is the one that matters.
If we attempt to apply the Glazing Code CPSC 16 CFR 1201 we reach the following conclusions. The bottom section(s) needs to have safety glazing since they are within 18 inches of a walkway. If an adjacent pesonnel door is within 24 inches then the side panels up to 60 inches need to have safety glass. But what about when the door is up and in an overhead position? Do the rules for overhead glazing apply? Safety screens?
