Greetings all,

We have a very old 3 story with a basement hotel. It's on the historic register, completely gutted, basically a shell building. So do we require full compliance with modern codes for the reconstruction? The interior has one narrow stairway. Old rusted fire escapes on the other end, no elevator. Proposed usage will be either R1 or R2. Adopted codes are 09 I Codes and Nfpa 101.

BSSTG,

We have alot of these type of projects and they are motly done with tax credits as part of the project. With out the IEBC, code modifications ,well schooled designers, and open minded code officials these projects would never leave the starting gate much less get completed. Keep in mind the IEBC will send you to the IBC for many "moderen regulations", and some requirements you just can't get around.
