Our current house has an eight foot landing with shelves when you step outside the door into the garage. My new truck won't fit! . I'd like to take the landing out and just have stairs. The door opens out into the garage. The floor in the house is 24" above the garage door. Do I need a landing there or just the two steps down? THANKS!

If the dor swings over the stairs a landing is required. 24” will require more than two steps.

and if that is the rule then I presume there must be enough room for the door to open while I'm standing on the landing? Thanks very much.

If the door remains swinging out into the garage, minimum 36" deep landing required. I would pursue changing the swing to in.

You just need a 3' landing by code in Canada. If you want to eliminate it entirely, swing the door into the house as our American friends have indicated.
