House to Garage Stairs Code

Our current house has an eight foot landing with shelves when you step outside the door into the garage. My new truck won't fit! . I'd like to take the landing out and just have stairs. The door opens out into the garage. The floor in the house is 24" above the garage door. Do I need a landing there or just the two steps down? THANKS!

There’s no room for common sense in the code.

That is an option I might have to look at.

If the door remains swinging out into the garage, minimum 36" deep landing required. I would pursue changing the swing to in.

Reducing it from an 8 ft landing to 3 ft might be enough to get the truck in.

You just need a 3' landing by code in Canada. If you want to eliminate it entirely, swing the door into the house as our American friends have indicated.
