This is a residential addition, relocating the laundry room. We don't have plumbing inspections and I am pretty much forbidden to list any possible corrections but the home owner asked me about a problem so I feel obliged to help him out....by reference only. His complaint is that his current system causes sewer odor while doing laundry and he asked me about the new installation. I wouldn't want a repeat, that being said I don't want to tell him anything that isn't an actual violation. Here is what I see:

1) The laundry sink will be have a trap and the stand pipe will have a trap...=double trap on the sink

2) The stand pipe trap is located more than 42" below the inlet

3) The drain coming into the stand pipe turns the stand pipe drain into a branch drain and would require it to be 3" at that point

4) The only vent connected to this is about 30' horizontally (under the floor) and then about 12' vertically through the roof=too far for both fixtures

5) The plates do not extend above the plate to protect the pipes

The combination of what I see leads me to believe he might end up with some problems. Correct me if I am wrong, I'm not real good at plumbing. If I missed any problems show me the way. The way I see it he couldn't even trap the standpipe correctly (not less than 18", not more than 42") with this configuration. Any help is appreciated.

looks like the "advanced plumbing" concept at play here. Saving money on eliminating a trap, a vent or two. Sweet!

Laundry sink needs to connect it's drain under floor and it's own vent.

Stand pipe needs p-trap above floor and it's own vent too, and both vent can combine above ceiling. this should solve the sewer gas problem.
