Any Ideas on how to convince my municipality the importance of the ICC annual Conference, Business meeting and code hearings. The powers that be in my municipality say “our County does not care about ICC, Code Development etc.

All they care about is training. So since there is only one day of training during the annual conference they are requiring that I take annual leave if I want to attend the Conference.

Any Ideas on how to convince the powers that be that our municipality will benefit from me going to the conference????

Explain to them how involvement in code code change debates and voting on them gives your jurisdiction a headstart in what is upcoming. Also, submitting your own code change proposals, if you have worthy ones, gives you more grounds to be there.

It can allow you to gain a better understanding on the codes and see how the intent and or rationale behind various provisions comes about. This insight gained can aid the inspector in better service to his/her customers by having an enhanced knowledge of the code and it's development. Some also view it as "Professional Development".

Attending code development hearings is one of the approved CEU categories. Its' getting harder (and more expensive) to find enough CEUs to keep up the certs. Go to a hearing...get CEU credit!

CEU'S should also be given for ICC committee service that includes "work groups". While work groups are not an official committee srevice the comitment is still there and must be recognized.

I agree CEU's are getting more & more expensive. Hearings are a great place to take advantage of class time and to keep pace with what is new and changing. We need more people on the floor to vote for Jim Brown also!!!!! ;)

Darren Emery "Attending code development hearings is one of the approved CEU categories."

I did not know that. Were can I find a list of approved ways to get CEUs? Particularly in regard to the ICC Annual Conference, Business Meeting, Code Hearings (in other words Portland).

I tried to find this information on the ICC website but was unable to.

By the way I support Jim Brown for ICC Board of Directors

I think the best way to get a handle on what is accepted is to use the "report CEU activity" portion of the ICC website. The system is a bit cumbersome, but once you get a hang of it, it's easy to track all of your CEUs. Use the drop down menue to see what your options are when reporting CEU activity. One of them is "ICC Code Development Hearings".
