IEEE 519 requires 5% THD voltage and current distortion at the point of common coupling. I know that a conservative approach to assuring this is to make sure that you have no more than this at any point on the system. Still, I've seen many an installation where it is higher at various points but the point of common coupling was in line with the standard and everything appeared to run smoothly.

My question is, at what level of harmonic distortion at any given point in a system, should one start to be concerned?

Thanks
