Under IBC 2003. An existing 48,000 sq. ft. non-sprinklered Type II building with interior soccer fields and alumimum bleacher seating. Has anyone applied Table 1004.1.2 Swimming pool, skating rink to an interior soccer field to determine the occupant load? Travel distance is ok, we are working out the exiting with an additional exit and it will have a fire alarm. There is no change of use, however they are asking for annexation into this village. There has been no known occupant loads set prior.

Yes, I have used that occupant load factor. I have also used a modified factor if it was accompanied by some sort of rational study done by teh applicant or design professional involved. It is heavily dependant on whether they have stands or bleachers for viewing and whther they have concession stands, etc.

CornFieldCode,

BTW, Welcome to the "NEW" and MUCH IMPROVED code forum! :D

Re: Indoor soccer field occupant load

We often use the 50 gross for "participant sport" areas. Just make sure you get clarification as to the intended uses of the other areas because 903.2.1.3 may let them get out of sprinkler protection in "field"areas.
