What is people's real experience and take on the availability of inspectors jobs and what municipalities are looking for in an inspector. I'm a 30-year construction veteran, a master electrician, ICC certified combo, and having a tough time getting a job nailed down. Any feedback would be greatly welcomed and appreciated.

Best of luck to you. I can certainly understand why you would not want to relocate. Beautifill state. But there are jobs if you are willing to relocate. Master electricians are especially valued. With a masters here in Wyoming you could start at 70 to 80K with the coal mines. Also check out Williston North Dakota. A lot of money being made in BOOM, BOOM, times up there. Also check out Cheyenne Wyoming. Big stuff there as well. Again, best of luck.

Well, if you are tired of 6 month winters perhaps Wyoming isn't the best fit. I've seen 9 month winters here! What about Texas??? I also know that Rapid City SD is doing much better this year. Talked to their Building Official last week. They issued 400 permits just in May with a valuation of 20 million.

I'm looking for a private sector fire protection or code specialist or fire investigation (CFI) person. I want to live here and somewhere warm for three months. I deserve it and I'm worth it :)

I'll send resume :)

Best wishes CW..oh BTW the email address for the 3rd Party never responded?

Thanks much, between this site, ICC, the one you sent, 3-4 resumes/apps a week, it will happen. I'm used to looking for "trades work", this is a different process.

I am working now but still send out the occasional resumé or application. The lack of communication from prospective employers is amazing. Most of the advertisements ask for electronic submissions. E-mail can be set up to acknowledge the receipt of the submission or a quick reply button, paste job and hit send. Anything to let the applicant know the app got there would be really nice.

Try indeed.com. You set up a daily search for "building inspector jobs." Pick a state and it they will send you a daily e-mail with all new jobs found. They search government and private sector jobs. Once you apply it can take months to hear back so have a short term plan to get you through. Good luck.

If you're looking to relocate, you'll probably have better luck. As you know the NE construction market is not too good right now. You should check Boston.com (I think their job board is run by monster) that site always seems to have some good listings. You could also check out the Vermont Building Officials Association and see if they accept associate members - can't hurt to network. Good Luck

We should have a place to post our resumes here for prospective employers to "headhunt' in the shadows
