Inspectors don't seem to know the plumbing code

I recently started inspecting for a jurisdiction and realize nobody knows much about plumbing. When I started, I shadowed a few inspectors that basically checked if the plumbing was on test. They might be able to spot a sanitary tee on its back or an s-trap, but really have no understanding of things like wet venting and sizing drains and vents. I have taken on the task of learning plumbing so at least one person in the department can do a decent job. Any similar experiences?
