A question about the exaust duct -- May they go to flexable duct at the exaust end before the vent goes thru the exterior wall. this would be in a concealed space. this is a retofit and they are needing to skim by some joists and rim material. I don't like it, but I don't know why.

Domestic clothes dryer duct must be constructed of of metal and have a smooth interior finish.

I doubt that you will find a flexible metal duct with a smooth interior finish.

Check out 504.6 in the 2006 IMC.

Chris

Can't a residential have a short piece of flexible duct (6' or less) between the the dryer and the solid? Not that this would apply to this question, as they are planning on putting flex up by the framing members . . .well, , not any more . . heh heh heh

Yankee,

The limit on the ' transition duct ' is 8' ( max. ). See Section 504.6 in the `06 IMC.

.

Thank you, you know I read that section this morning and I missed the meaning of the wording below:

"Transition ducts shall not be concealed within construction."

That about covers it . . .
