I am looking for the code section that directs / allows me to find a definition

in the IBC or other code books.

I seem to recall that we have had this discussion before, where if a definition

or application is not speficially provided in the IRC, that we could then go to

the IBC or other I-code for legal clarity / reference / charging language.

Here's the application: I want to find an applicable code section defining

"net square feet" and "gross square feet". I did not see it in the IRC, but

I DID see it in Ch. 10 of the IBC.

QUESTION # 1: How do you define your Residential "Net square feet" vs.

"Gross square feet".

QUESTION # 2: How do you calculate your Residential permit fees, ..off

of the "Net square feet" or the "Gross square feet", or other?

FWIW, we typically base our fees off of the heated & cooled sq. footage.

Thanks!

Where terms are not defined in this code such terms shall have meanings ascribed to them as in other code publications of the International Code Council. IRC, Section 201.3.

There is a similar provision in the IBC

In the IBC go to FLOOR AREA, GROSS and FLOOR AREA, NET in Section 1002.1.

If you base permit fees off of cost of construction, you'll know who to call when you want an addition put on your house.
