Because it is better and easier to fire rate the penetrations? Can you replace cast with PVC in type I & II construction during repairs if the PVC won't be in a plenum space? Why i cast used in type I & II?
Yes, but other than the IMC for a plenum space or a penetration through a fire rated assembly, I don't see where you can't replace cast with pvc such as replacing a 6' cracked section of cast with PVC. The IMC is helpful but not the IPC.2021 IBC - 603.1.2
The use of combustible piping materials shall be permitted where installed in accordance with the limitations of the International Mechanical Code and the International Plumbing Code.
Correct....603.1.2 allows it.....Massachusetts still has like a 3 story limit on plastic piping....Yes, but other than the IMC for a plenum space or a penetration through a fire rated assembly, I don't see where you can't replace cast with pvc such as replacing a 6' cracked section of cast with PVC. The IMC is helpful but not the IPC.
Yep, replace away.Yes, but other than the IMC for a plenum space or a penetration through a fire rated assembly, I don't see where you can't replace cast with pvc such as replacing a 6' cracked section of cast with PVC.
