Walking into a 2 year old box store (IIB construction) last night and I noticed that on the outside overhang where the carts are stored which is sprinkled the store has installed a netting below the sprinkler to keep the birds out of the overhang area.

I assume the netting will melt/burn away about the same time the sprinklers would activate and that is the question. Should we be concernd about the type of material the netting is? If it was inside I think it would fall under interior finishes but out side I am not sure. We will be in that area for fire inspections in August and it could be addressed at time if it is a potential problem

The netting would qualify as an open grid ceiling system per NFPA 13 (2002) Section 8.14.12. It would not obstruct the sprinkler discharge. It should be at least a Class C interior finish.
