Jefferson City, Mo. — Attorney General Chris Koster today announced that Sara Dick, a state assistant attorney general, will serve as the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) coordinator in his office.
Koster said the Americans with Disabilities Act, a broad civil rights law that prohibits discrimination against disabled citizens, was signed into law on July 26, 1990 – 21 years ago today.
Specifically, Title II of the act prohibits disability discrimination at the state and local levels regarding access to services, including physical access. In addition, Title II requires total access to public transportation for those with disabilities, including establishing fixed routes.
“One of our responsibilities in the Attorney General’s Office is to investigate complaints regarding Title II of the ADA,” Koster said. “We take this charge very seriously, and so I am naming Assistant Attorney General Dick, who has considerable experience in disability cases, as the contact in our office for any questions about compliance, or any other related issues.”
Dick has been with the Attorney General’s Office since April 2010. She can be reached at 573-751-3321.
