Does anybody know if the legacy codes exist online for free? I'm looking for the 1949 UBC. I can buy it from ICC for $64 but would rather not since this is probably a one time need. Thanks.

1949?????

Online ?? Telegraph maybe

What section do you need

Someone should have it

Since you visit rarely, which is nice with relatives,,,,

What problem are you looking at??

Maybe be a way around it with out having to dig up the book in the backyard and get it out of the mason jar

A friend of mine has a building built in 1950 which has some back stairs his insurance company wants him to change. I am trying to find out for him what the code requirements were at that time. Best I can do here in the office is 1982 UBC.

And there has been no construction changes or business changes since 1910??

Plus his insurance is telling him to do it.

Sometimes insurance trumps the building code .

Do they want him to add or change the stairs??

And are you sure it was built under the 1949 version??

City it was built in should have the book and

Also check to see if there was a code adopted than

There is some guess work on my part involved here. I don't know what codes were actually adopted back then in this jurisdiction, at that time the state's. My BO is off on vacation so he's no help. I have a call in to the state building codes office to see just what code was in place at the time. The insurance adjuster is less than knowledgeable, but it may come down to the building owner having to bow to Caesar or go else where as mentioned. The local insurance agent seems to think the company will allow the stairs if it can be shown that it was compliant with code at time of construction. Hence my question.

Just the top ten ones!

How about asking a neighboring old BO that has been there awhile

What do they say is wrong with the stairs

They have copies of the old code books at our central library reference section. You can go there and scan the entire thing to a thumb drive for free!

The answer for the ICC folks, and the cost is per code edition

Yes, you do have to purchase the code to receive the serial number you need to unlock the PDF. The cost is $80.00 non member and $60.00 member. The site you found was our update site which is for individuals who have already purchased the code. You can purchase the UBC Codes on our online bookstore at http://shop.iccsafe.org under Codes and then Legacy Codes.
