I'm guess most of you know this but as a relatively new first time grandfather - the one and only is 18 months now - I saw he could easily let himself out of the house with a lever handle. My son is planning to change it to a knob. I can see the virtue of getting out in a fire but this kid loves to be out of doors, puts his own coat on, and takes off. Just an observation on the consequences of codes.

At least levers are NOT required in residential!
You mean "single family residential". We're required to do it in multifamily adaptable and accessible residential units.
At swimming pool enclosures, ADA 404.2.7 makes a height exception and allows lever hardware to be 54" AFF.
Just goes to show how safety and accessibility goals have to compromise.
