The lights are attached to the unistrut supporting the ductwork. I recall this was not permitted in the past under the legacy codes but I can't find a code section to back me up for the I-Codes. Is my memory failing me

I can't think of anything off the top of my head that would prevent it, but I'm too lazy to look it up today.........

603.10 of the International Mechanical Code (2006) implies that the supports, whether hangers, or some other structure shall comply with International Building Code and consider all dynamic and static design loads. It is my interpretation that the support system would need to be designed to support duct and lighting dead loads, and that the 10 foot interval spacing may need to be reduced.

I'm with fatboy and Papio.

Concern would be the additional weight, the strut spacing could correct that issue if weight is an issue. Sprinkler head below duct depending on coverage, should be checked if building is sprinkled?

I thought there was something in the NEC that said shall be supported by the building structure or other electrical work....but I can't find it right now...
