M2 Test

Hi everyone. I mentioned in the commercial building code forum that I'm having to knock out the B,M,P, and E 2 tests by 3/12. 1 down, 3 to go. Crazy stuff, but you do what you have to to stay employed.

I've been hitting the books hard the last few nights and still get a little stuck during practice exams when figuring out which code to use. At times I'd swear the question would send me to the IMC only to find out I should have been in the IFGC.

Besides continuing the practice exams and reading, can you offer any tips on easily distinguishing between the two?

IFGC applies only to fuel gas (natural gas or propane). If the apliance you are dealing with uses either of these, you use the IFGC (duct construction standards for a gas furnace or RTU would go back to the IMC). If it is an oil, solid fuel, or electric only apliance, use the IMC.

klaren summed it up. If you can grab a comm plan set and do a quick plan review of the two using those two books...I found that to be a helpful way to remember too...good luck. Follow the usual test taking tips for ICC tests and you should do fine.
