We're learning more Friday about the impact local cities will face after Thursday's California Supreme Court decision on redevelopment agencies. The use tax money to encourage development, and the court ruled the governor and lawmakers can eliminate them.
In Paso Robles, at least three big projects are now a concern. Those include a city park bathroom that needs to be brought up to ADA standards, and rehabilitation of 21st Street. The city manager says he's most concerned about disabled access improvements along Spring Street. With no money from the RDA, $1.9 million in funding is up in the air for that project, and around $500,000 may now be needed to for the city park bathroom and street rehabilitation project.
In Atascadero, construction on a pedestrian bridge will likely be on hold, as well as signage projects and Lake Park frontage improvements.
In Santa Barbara, public bathroom construction could now be on hold. In Pismo Beach, future low to moderate income housing will feel the pinch.
Santa Maria says it won't have the money it planned on, roughly $1.4 million a year, to repay the debt on two parking structures. Several other local cities also have RDA's but could not be reached for comment Friday due to the holiday
