NFPA 72 2007 Section 8.6.3.2.1.5 number 3 States "the primary means of transmission shall be a telephone line (number) connected to the public switched network." Question: Is an internal extension telephone number on a PBX system considered a telephone line (number)?

Re: monitoring

PBX systems may or may not work based on the fire alarm panel dialer. The code typically is going to require a direct POTS line.

You should also make sure that an RJ31X jack is installed to control the phone line.
